Fred Rahmanian, chief analytics and technology officer, Geneia has garnered immense experience in the healthcare arena, and intimately understands the challenges healthcare delivery organizations face. He applies his decades of experience in software development, data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to building practical, easy-to-implement and easy-to-use solutions. In addition to his expertise in analytics and AI, Fred built and leads Geneia’s multi-national quality assurance team and software developers. Fred has excellent creative and practical problem-solving and issue-resolution skills. As a technological visionary, Fred engages at the most senior levels within an organization to provide respected leadership to the wider technology community. He has extensive experience working with diverse teams to implement the technical architecture that solves hard problems and to anticipate and design around potential problems that could impact the user experience.
Fred has brought a broad set of experiences from software development and architecture to a track record of creating successful, market-facing AI applications to his role at Geneia. His creation and leadership of the Geneia Data Intelligence Lab (GDI Lab) is an excellent example of how Fred has applied his expertise and experiences to his current role. Fred leads a team of carefully vetted and trained PhD- and masters-level data scientists, analysts and engineers dedicated to building predictive and increasingly prescriptive models. This rare level of talent and experience means the GDI Lab can develop, interpret and work with unique models and create specific, targeted algorithms related to healthcare cost. The lab also builds customized models that are continuously refined while simultaneously helping clients move from insights to targeted actions.
"Geneia has garnered immense experience in the healthcare arena, and intimately understands the challenges healthcare delivery organizations face.
The GDI Lab uses leading-edge data science to help drive lower costs for health plans, physicians and employers. The GDI Lab prioritizes projects that address major healthcare cost drivers with the goal of enabling its clients to identify, stratify and predict high-cost claimants and conditions such as heart failure and diabetes. “We treat technology as an auxiliary aid to clinicians. It should always strengthen the link between the clinician and the patient—never get in the way,” says Rahmanain. Imagine, as a physician, being able to predict when a patient might have a cardiac event and then intervening and engaging the patient with an individualized care plan that could possibly prevent that event. That's the world Geneia and Fred are working to realize, one that uses the best of technology and analytics to personalize care for patients and populations while simultaneously helping to alleviate epidemic levels of physician burnout.
The GDI Lab’s novel research in deep learning will benefit the company’s health plan, hospital and employer customers in the near future. For example, the lab used innovative machine learning techniques to create a risk score model that is poised to outperform traditional actuarial practices. Traditionally, health plans have used actuarial models that determine risk and future costs at the population level. The GDI Lab model creates a dynamic risk score for each member, which improves its precision and personalization as well as enables health plans to act on the insights to prevent health deterioration and future costs. “The GDI Lab’s dynamic risk model creates a personalized risk score for each member, enabling health plans and their network physicians to better predict and mitigate future health costs and ultimately fare better in value-based care reimbursement arrangements,” states Rahmanian.
